Evaluation Essay
Purpose: To make a judgment and explain the criteria and evidence to support your opinion.
Introduction: Introduces the topic and presents the judgment in the form of a thesis statement.
Body: Give the criteria, the judgment and the evidence for specific points related to the thesis.
Conclusion: Summarize the points and give an ending thought for the reader related to the thesis.
Language: Citations will give added weight to any evidence used.
Other considerations: This is a very similar essay to the response essay and can also be considered similar to theillustrative essay.

The T20 Cricket World Cup
Although 50 over cricket’s first World Cup took place in 1975, the 20 over version began more recently in 2007. At first, it appeared that teams did not take the event seriously because 20 over cricket – also known as T20 – was not considered a serious cricketing contest. However, following the two most recent T20 World Cups, in Sri Lanka 2012 and Bangladesh 2014, it can now be argued that the T20 World Cup is an outstanding sporting event.
The main strength of the competition lies in its timeframe. While the 50 over competition is spread awkwardly over a period of up to 6 weeks, with numerous dead rubbers and a lot of travelling between venues required of supporters, the T20 version is a much more compact affair. Both the most recent events were completed in a little under three weeks, with all of the matches taking place in only two or three different venues. Fans of one particular team could base themselves in one city for a few days and see all the matches played by their team, before moving to another city for the semi finals and final (espncricinfo.com, 2014). This means that a trip to the T20 World Cup is a much shorter and cheaper matter than for the lengthy 50 over World Cup.
The second attractive feature of the competition is that in the group stages, spectators can enjoy two back to back matches in the same stadium on the same day. This means that fans get to see more teams and more cricket while increasing the likelihood that all matches will be played in front of a full house. The atmosphere at games is therefore much more exciting, with fans of the all four teams in abundance on each day. Furthermore, under the guidance of the International Cricket council, the host countries have been asked to keep tickets prices within reach of the local fans, ensuring that the stadiums are full and that everyone has affair chance to attend the tournament (ICC, 2011). In Sri Lanka it was possible to see two matches involving the best teams in the world for less than one US dollar.
The final strength of the competition was the way in which the teams changed their initial skeptical attitude and embraced the event. Although the format is much shorter which makes the competition rather more equal and increases the chances of shock results, the tournament has typically seen the best two teams contesting the final, while the quality of the cricket has risen seemingly every time the event is staged. Newcomers such as Afghanistan, Ireland and the Netherlands have produced amazing victories over the established cricketing nations, while the highest ranked teams such as West Indies and Sri Lanka have lifted the trophy playing brilliant cricket (espncricinfo.com, 2014).
In summary, all cricket fans would love a trip to the T20 World Cup. It is a great way to combine a relaxing holiday with a chance to watch the best cricket teams in the world playing exciting cricket in front of enthusiastic crowds at reasonable prices. The event is compact in terms of time and distance, and while the outcome on the field is always uncertain, the entertainment is guaranteed.
